Where Heritage Meets Your Story
At the heart of Österjörn, where forest meets lake, lies Lantliv Österjörn Lodge—a sanctuary born from a passion for authentic Swedish countryside living. "Lantliv" means "country life," and here, we invite you to experience its true essence. More than just a place to stay, our historic Herrgård is a gateway to tranquility, a canvas for your memories, and a home where every guest becomes part of our story.
The Soul of the Herrgård
Our journey began with a deep appreciation for this special corner of Swedish Lapland. The story of Österjörn itself stretches back to 1778, rooted in the land of the indigenous Sami people, whose rich culture and traditions are woven into the fabric of the region.
Our beautiful main building, the Herrgård, carries its own legacy. Originally built in the Nineteenth Century, it stands as a testament to time and transformation. We were drawn to its timeless character—the whisper of history in its wooden beams and the promise of peace within its walls.
Rather than just restoring a building, we set out to reimagine a retreat for the modern traveler. We infused the historic structure with warm, contemporary comfort, creating spaces that feel both elegantly rustic and intimately welcoming. Our vision was clear: to create a place where you can truly disconnect to reconnect—with nature, with loved ones, and with yourself.
Today, Lantliv Österjörn Lodge stands proudly on the shores of Lake Jörnsträsket, a beloved landmark along the scenic Silvervägen (Highway 95) that travelers seek out for its unique charm and serene beauty.
The History Beneath Our Roots
The story of Lantliv Österjörn Lodge is intertwined with the long history of the land on which it stands. This is not just our story, but the story of this very special place in Swedish Lapland.
A Land of First Settlers and Indigenous Heritage
The first settlement in this area, then known as Jorn, dates back to 1778. The local village grew throughout the nineteenth century and the beautiful wooden church that still graces the landscape was built in 1857.
This region is, and always has been, the homeland of the Sami, the indigenous people of Scandinavia. Their vibrant culture, enduring traditions, and unique handicrafts are an integral part of the fabric of this pristine wilderness of rivers, lakes, and vast forests.
The Heart of Västerbotten County
We are proudly located in Västerbotten County, a region of remarkable contrasts. It is the second largest county in Sweden, offering a landscape rich with waterways for fishing and a climate that defines the North. Here, you experience cold, snowy winters with the magical dance of the Northern Lights, and bright, sunny summers where the Midnight Sun ensures the light never fully fades. This inspiring environment has been the birthplace of many renowned Swedish authors.
A Beloved Landmark on the Silver Road
Today, our historic Herrgård enjoys a beloved place along the scenic Silvervägen (Highway 95), a historic route stretching from the coast to the mountains. We are a recognized stop for travelers seeking a serene view over the sparkling waters of Lake Jörnsträsket.
